So That a Disaster Were Not to Strike: On the Relevance of Risk Management with an Exposition of EAR/PILAR

This study is a contribution on risk management and assessment that first provides a general discussion that emphasises the importance of this practice for business entities and organisations. This is followed by an overview on the landscape of risk assessment methods and tools, which is supplemented with some ideas on how to select the most appropriate method for a given study. Moreover, after providing some introductory discussion on MAGERIT as a risk management and assessment method and EAR/PILAR, its complementing risk management tool, this study proceeds by choosing to use MAGERIT method and its complementary software tool, in order to feature a mechanically assisted risk assessment of a web organisation that is projected to be situated in the Southern European region, being subject to or within the region of the EU regulatory framework. The risk management and assessment exercise exemplified in this study is performed in an anonymous and generalised manner that seeks to provide a comprehensive illustration of EAR/PILAR as a mechanised risk management tool, while discussing its features, essentially by demonstrating them in an applied fashion. The relatively extensive and detailed discussion provides valuable information on the practice of risk assessment in general, in addition to providing an overview on the basic elements of how to conduct a mechanised tool assisted risk management and assessment of a web organisation by using EAR/PILAR software program in particular.
