Elderly Parent Finance Tracker: Caregiver Spreadsheet for Bills
Managing a parent's money? Keep bills and receipts in one place and give siblings clear updates with this caregiver tracker for Excel and Google Sheets.
Parent Money Keeper keeps your parent's income, bills, care and medical costs, and family pay-backs together in one workbook. Type each payment once, and the Dashboard, a one-page Monthly Family Summary and a Year at a Glance fill in on their own, so you can answer "where did the money go?" without rebuilding a report every month.
WHY IT'S DIFFERENT
• One file for the whole money picture: income, bills, care costs and who paid what, instead of a separate sheet for each.
• A printable Monthly Family Summary to share with your siblings each month: money in and out by category, bills paid and not yet paid, care costs, who is owed back, plus notes and questions for the family.
• Works in Excel and in Google Sheets with the same .xlsx file, so the whole family can open it.
• When a helper pays from their own pocket, pick their name. Pay-backs are recorded on their own tab, so nothing is counted twice.
• Every year in one file: change one Year cell and every summary follows. Your logs keep all years.
• Easy-to-read type (12 to 14 pt on most tabs), plain words and dropdowns.
WHAT'S INCLUDED (3 files)
• Parent_Money_Keeper.xlsx: the blank workbook for your parent
• Parent_Money_Keeper_EXAMPLE.xlsx: the same workbook filled in for a made-up family
• START_HERE.pdf: how to download, unzip and open the file in Excel or Google Sheets, step by step

HOW IT WORKS
1. Look through the EXAMPLE file for a few minutes.
2. In the blank file, type the year, your parent's name, the helpers and accounts on Settings & Lists.
3. List income sources and recurring bills once.
4. Add each payment and deposit on Money Log as it happens, and care bills on Care & Medical Costs.
5. Each month, check the Dashboard, then print the Monthly Family Summary and share it with your family.
White boxes with a blue border are the ones you type in. Everything else fills in on its own. Every date shows the full year.
WORKS WITH EXCEL & GOOGLE SHEETS
• Works in Excel 2016 or newer and in Google Sheets, which runs in your web browser. A computer is easiest for the first setup.
• Google Sheets: open Google Sheets and use File > Import > Upload to open the .xlsx. START_HERE.pdf walks you through it.
• No macros. In Excel the tabs are protected with no password, so formulas are not typed over by accident. Google Sheets does not keep the protection, so type only in the white boxes there.
• The Monthly Family Summary prints on one page, Letter or A4.
SEE IT FILLED IN FIRST
The EXAMPLE file shows every tab and chart working for a made-up family, so you know exactly what you'll get before you type anything about your own parent.
PRIVACY NOTE
This file holds private family information. Accounts & Insurance asks for the last 4 digits only. Never type full account numbers, passwords, PINs or full Social Security numbers. Keep the file somewhere safe, and share it view-only with trusted family members when you can.
