This is a small book (21 pages) on double stops. There is a video (on YouTube) where I play the study examples and also explain them. It goes together with this book. (The video file is not included here, it is free on YouTube anyway).

A double stop is the technique of playing two notes simultaneously on a stringed instrument. The two voices can move in any direction, or one could move and the other stays on the same note. For this study I chose to explore this approach, which is widely used by pop, rock and R&B musicians.

One of the common usages of double stops is where the melody is played on the lower string and the higher string becomes the pedal note, which is usually played by the first or second finger. Double stops in that context are usually applied around the pentatonic scale or major scale and its modes.

Using the same principle, basically approaching it as a lick or a single idea, I applied it to jazz harmony and made it a system that could be used in any harmonic situation. Firstly, I explored the following scales in five positions: the pentatonic, natural major, melodic minor and harmonic minor, and added to those the diminished and whole tone scales as well. Secondly, I applied it to different chords using different modes from the previously mentioned scales.

The book also includes a written out solo on chord changes similar to "Donna Lee" (by Charlie Parker), also the head of "Donna Lee".
