The sweetly flowing movement of the yarn in these socks reminds me of the way water cuts a channel through sand or soil: hence the name Rills! These socks feature a custom designed ribbing pattern with a fun stitch manoeuvre to learn (it’s not cables!). These have a sideways wedge toe and a fleegle heel and are worked toe-up. There’s an option for a patterned sole for putting your feet up (and on show) or a plain sole for a sock that can be used as boot sock.
Sizes
The pattern contains negative ease. Foot lengths are easily adjustable. Note that the S size is achievable only with the alternate a gauge and you may wish to use slightly lighter yarn such as a worsted.
To fit foot sizes:
S:17.5-20cm/7-8inches and 23cm/9in in length - by using second given gauge and/or lighter yarn only
M/L: 20.5-25cm/8-9 in circumference and foot length 23.5-26.5cm/9 ½ -10 ½in in length
Shown in aran yarn on a foot 21.5cm circ and 23.5cm long in the M/L
Needles:
5-6mm (US 8-10) circular needle or correct needle size to achieve and a needle 1mm or 1-2 US sizes smaller for ribbing. Pattern is written for one needle magic loop, but you may substitute your preferred method of small circumference knitting

Yarn and yardage
For the M/L:New Lanark 90% wool 10% silk aran in colourway blue lovage (blue-green sample) or New Lanark 100% wool aran in colourway clematis (purple sample). This has a wpi of 8. Or any wool or acrylic aran yarn with which you can achieve gauge. You don’t have to do two different colours! For the small I suggested worsted yarns - allow some extra yardage if using the lighter yarn with a wpi in range circa 9-10
