A traditional fisherman’s rib stitch is accentuated by gorgeous cables at the neckline and sleeves. Employing traditional techniques, this modern garment will complement a wide variety of looks. You’ll wear it for years and years to come.

The Front and Back and worked separately from the bottom up. The sleeves are each worked from the top of the saddle shoulder down to the cuff.

The cables employ a unique method using two cable needles to cross the two sides of the cable behind the central rib. See the photo tutorial for more information.

  • Chest circumference: 34 (38, 42, 46, 50) (54, 58, 62, 66)“ / 86.5 (96.5, 106.5, 117, 127) (137, 147.5, 157.5, 167.5) cm.
  • Garment is meant to be worn with 2 to 4” / 5 to 10 cm positive ease.

Substitution Notes
Choose a DK weight yarn. The original is a superwash wool that works up at 5.5 sts per inch (2.5 cm) on 3.75 mm (US 5) needles. Wools (including superwash), wool blends, and acrylics will substitute well. 

Needles + Notions
  • 3.25 & 3.5 mm (US 3 & 4) 24" (60 cm) or longer Circular Needles;
  • 2.75 & 3.25 mm (US 2 & 3) 16" (40 cm) Circular Needles;
  • 5 Locking Stitch Markers;
  • 2 Cable Needles;
  • Yarn Needle.

Gauge
16 sts and 41 rows = 4" (10 cm) in Fisherman’s Rib Stitch Pattern, gently blocked and slightly stretched, using 3.5 mm (US 4) needle.

Increases/decreases, short rows, fisherman’s rib (tuck stitches), working cables from written instructions and tutorial, basic saddle shoulder sweater construction, worked flat, bottom up, top down sleeves, seamed, neckband worked in the round, picking up stitches.
