It was a bright sunny morning when Mia decided to have some fun. She downloaded a new shrink app on her phone, curious about its capabilities. Her boyfriend Kyle, who was still in bed, made the perfect test subject. With a mischievous grin, Mia pointed the phone's camera at Kyle's sleeping form and pressed the button.

"10 feet to 10 inches," the app announced cheerfully. To Mia's amazement, Kyle began to shrink, the bed frame and sheets looming large around his dwindling body until he was tinier than an insect. "Wow, it actually works!" she exclaimed.

Mia scooped up the miniaturized Kyle in a coffee mug. The terrified man clung to the ceramic sides as she carried him into the kitchen, his voice a high-pitched squeak. "What the heck, Mia? What did you do?!"

"Just having a little fun, babe," she giggled, setting the cup on the counter. "You should see how cute you look at that size!"

Mia left Kyle trapped in the mug to make some breakfast, still marveling at her new power. Perhaps she could shrink her annoying boss next. Or any pest who crossed her path. The app opened up so many tantalizing possibilities.

Heat sizzled from the skillet as Mia whipped eggs. She hummed to herself, pondering whose turn it would be to test the shrink app next. The front door opening interrupted her scheming. "Mom, you're early!" she called.

"Tvertime at the factory," her mother Barbara grunted. Heavy footfalls thudded as the plus-sized woman plodded into the kitchen, her considerable weight straining the seams of her tight mini-skirt and too-snug blouse. "I'm beat. So much for my Saturday off."

Mia cringed but kept her opinions to herself. "Can I get you anything?"

"Some coffee. That's my girl," Barbara sighed, plopping heavily into a chair. The wooden seat groaned under her bulk.

Mia busied herself with mugs while keeping a wary eye on Kyle's prison. She'd let him out once Mom left. As she waited for the coffee to brew, Barbara shifted in the chair, hiking up her skirt a bit. Mia glimpsed her mother's bare thighs, fat rolls spilling out around the clinging fabric.

Barbara noticed her staring. "You've seen it before. Get over yourself," she huffed. "Ain't like I asked for these curves. Genetics, sweetie."

Mia mumbled something conciliatory. The coffee started dripping and she turned her attention there, praying it would hurry up. Seen enough junk in her trunk for one day.

Barbara rose with another grunt, taking a few ponderous steps towards the counter. "Oh, you got new dishes? Real cute-"

Suddenly, the BBW woman stalled, staring down at her feet. "What the hell?" Her plump lips puckered.

Mia's heart seized as she followed her mother's gaze. Kyle! Damn it, how did she leave him out in the open? The tiny man cowered on the tile, as helpless as an ant before the shoe descending upon him.

"Mom, wait!" Mia cried, lunging to grab Kyle. But Barbara had already shifted her considerable weight to the other foot, bringing her clog-clad heel down-

SQUISH.

A sickening crunch echoed through the kitchen. Goo splattered from under the wooden heel, painting the floor crimson. Barbara jumped back with a shriek.

"Oh my god, a bug! Nasty little thing," she spat, wiping her sole on a dishrag. The rag came away dripping red.

Mia crouched over the splotch of blood and Kyle's mangled remains, bile rising in her throat. Her boyfriend, brutally extinguished under her mother's carelessness. Because of her own foolishness with the shrink app.

Dimly, she registered Barbara rummaging in the cabinet, muttering about getting the Raid. "Can't have roaches multiplying in here. I swear, this place..."

"T-thanks Mom, I'll handle it," Mia croaked. "You uh, you should probably get cleaned up. I'll make the coffee." She waved a shaky hand at her mother's gore-spattered foot.

Barbara squinted but nodded. "Right, don't need that shit in my shoes. Be back in a bit, sweetie. Maybe lose a few pounds, yeah?" She lumbered out of the kitchen, leaving a trail of faint red smears.

Mia retched, lurching to the trash bin. She lost what little was in her stomach, tears streaming down her face. The room spun and she barely made it to a chair before her knees gave out.

How was this happening? Her boyfriend, smashed like an insignificant speck, snuffed out in an instant. Because of her arrogance, her reckless abuse of power. She sobbed into her hands, mind reeling.

Mia had to destroy the shrink app. She couldn't be trusted with abilities like those. Before she or someone else used it to hurt people in unthinkable ways. It was too dangerous to exist.

Sniffling, the devastated girl stumbled to her phone. She opened the app, finger hovering over the uninstall button. Yes, that was the only choice. She couldn't take the risk of ruining more lives.

Mia took a shuddering breath and pressed delete. The app vanished, shrinking power lost forever. She slumped against the wall and wept for the future she'd never have with Kyle.

The coffee maker beeped, unnoticed. Barbara's heavy footsteps thudded closer, signaling her return. But Mia barely registered it, too lost in her anguished thoughts. She'd helped create her own personal hell, and now she was doomed to endure it.
