This cowl features a traditional Scandinavian style colourwork pattern.

The name Rollo is a nickname for Rovaniemi, which was my home town in Finnish Lapland for ten years. The design was inspired by the colourwork pattern in Rovaniemi mittens. 

Sizing and fit
This cowl is designed for cold winters. It has a narrow fit, so it can be worn under a jacket.
Finished measurements
Top circumference: 53 cm / 21”.
Bottom circumference: 61 cm / 24”.
Height: 36 cm / 14.25”.

Yarn
8-ply / DK to worsted weight wool yarn.
 • 190 m / 208 yds of Main colour (MC) and 
 • 90 m / 98 yds of Contrast colour (CC).

Needles
Size A: Top ribbing, 3.25 mm / US 3  40 cm / 16” circular needle.
Size B: Bottom ribbing and colourwork,4.5 mm / US 7  40 cm / 16” circular needle.

Notions
4 Stitch markers, tapestry needle.

Gauge
Colorwork gauge: 21sts x 22rows to 10cm / 4” on 4.5mm/ US 7 needles in colourwork in the round, measured from a relaxed 
fabric after blocking.

Design notes
• This cowl is knit bottom up and in the round. 
• The work begins and ends with a ribbed cuff.
• The colourwork pattern covers the body of the cowl and includes increases that create the funnel shape of the cowl.

The pattern provides written instructions and/or links to tutorials for the following techniques:
• Long-tail cast-on
• Stranded colourwork knitting
• Basic decreases: k2tog, CDD
