Gotteskind (Child of God) for 3 octave handbell choir (intermediate)
Instrumentation: 3 octave handbell choir
Duration: ~ 4'45''
Difficulty level: intermediate
When I was growing up in New Hampshire, I remember my dad used to sing a song every Sunday morning when he was in a particularly upbeat mood. Improvisatory in nature, it always contained the same core melody, and felt very much like a church hymn. As a Christmas gift to him in 2020, I decided to transcribe and arrange this piece for our family's church handbell choir, under the title "Gotteskind", or "Child of God". Since then, the piece has seen several performances from Florida to New Hampshire, and both my father and I are pleased that it seems to have struck a chord (pun intended) with handbell groups and congregations across the US.
Special thanks to my father and Triumphant Cross Lutheran Church, without whom this piece would not exist.
