Théodore Lack was a French pianist and composer who was born on June 22, 1846, in Nantes, France, and died on December 19, 1921, in Paris, France.

Lack studied music at the Paris Conservatory under the tutelage of Antoine François Marmontel and François Bazin. He began his career as a concert pianist, but later turned to composition and became known for his elegant and refined style.

Lack’s works include piano pieces, chamber music, and orchestral compositions. He was particularly known for his piano music, which was characterized by its clarity and precision. His works were widely performed and admired during his lifetime but have since fallen into relative obscurity.

Lack was also a dedicated teacher, and he taught piano and music theory at the École Normale de Musique de Paris. He was highly regarded by his students, who included the pianists Marguerite Long and Alfred Cortot.

Despite his contributions to French music, Lack’s legacy has largely been overshadowed by his more famous contemporaries such as Debussy and Ravel. Nevertheless, his music remains an important part of the French piano repertoire and is still performed and recorded today.
