Two parallel wires are orientated perpendicular to the page as shown in figure Q20.9. The wires carry equal currents, and the direction of the current is into the page for each. The vertices of an equilateral triangle are marked by the two wires and a point P as shown.

 

 (a) What is the direction of the magnetic field produced by the two wires at point P?

 

 (b) A third wire, parallel to the other two and carrying the same current in the same direction, is placed at point P. Determine the direction of the force on the wire at this point.
