A collection of ove 50 poems written by yours truely. Started during during the Covid 19 pandemic lockdowns to pass the time and continued afterwards just for pleasure.

Some initial poems concerned the pandemic itself and how it affected us.

I am fortunate enough to live in a house surrounded by a decent sized garden and really came to appreciate it during the most restrictive lockdowns. During fine weather I would sit in the garden and make plans for the future or write poetry to pass the time. My appreciation of nature was reawakened. The robin that followed me around the garden and perched within inches from where I sat, the blackbirds rearing their chick in the surrounding hedge, the colourful finches, the starlings and a host of other birds that came to eat the berries from the bushes in the garden, the colourful, scented flowers on the lilac trees: all these were the inhabitants of my environment. These all drew my attention and in the absence of the normal hustle and bustle, coming and going, could be appreciated all the more.

For me the lockdowns were not all bad. Being more of an introvert, I am comfortable with my own company. I was able to take advantage of the isolation to think about life, what my priorities were, and plan for the future. It paradoxically reinforced my belief that despite all that is beyond our control much of our destiny is in our own hands. It is up to us to decide on a course of action and then to take it.

Other themes centred on relationships with other people and occasions when we would come together like Christmas and Mother's Day. Mingled with these were thoughts of those we lost, and how we interact with those still with us.

And then some poems were more whimsical than reflections of what was on my mind. I used the writing of poetry at times simply as a means to focus my mind when my concentration would be less than desired. It also gave me some pleasure and others who viewed my work said it did the same for them. I hope it gives you some pleasure also.
