The Waffen SS Leibstandarte, also known as the LSSAH, was the first and most famous division of the Waffen-SS, the military branch of the Nazi SS organization. The division was originally formed as Adolf Hitler's personal bodyguard unit in 1933, but it soon expanded and became a combat unit during World War II. The LSSAH saw action on many fronts, including the invasion of Poland, the Battle of France, and the Eastern Front. The division was notorious for its involvement in numerous war crimes, including the massacre of civilians in the Soviet Union and the execution of prisoners of war. Despite its atrocities, the LSSAH gained a reputation for being a highly skilled and effective fighting force, and many of its members were fiercely loyal to the Nazi cause until the end of the war.
