A Little Bit About This Design
This year's Mini Monster CAL is inspired by the amazing art and culture of the Mexican Day of the Dead and is meant with respect as a tribute to a wonderful tradition and celebration of life and remembrance of the dead. Hookanory is a land inhabited by Humpty characters from far and wide so all my stories always have an eggy-twist, full of fun, a little humour and puns with a heartwarming message to cheer your day.

As a former art teacher I am really interested in the arts, and textiles of other cultures and have always been fascinated by the Latin American celebration of The Day Of The Dead (Dia De Los Muertos), so it was an obvious choice for inspiration especially as I already designed a mosaic blanket strip for the Halloween Blanket CAL hosted by Remington Lane Crochet earlier this year!
This festival, most commonly associated with Mexico celebrates, honours and remembers the lives of loved ones who have passed over, believing they return to the world of the living on that night to visit their families. It is a joyful celebration involving, sharing food, stories and offerings both with the living and the dead, featuring sugar skull sweets, marigold flowers and in more recent times, parades of papier mache puppets of skeletons.
