Rainbow Mini Skein Mitts Knitting Pattern

Simple fingerless mitts which show off a whole rainbow of colours. These seamless mitts have long ribbed cuffs to keep your wrists cosy. The hands are worked in stocking stitch and there is a thumb gusset for easy movement. Another rib section at the top ensures a snug fit around your fingers, and this can be worn folded back when you prefer to have your fingers uncovered. There’s a choice of three kits that work with this same pattern. The difference is the rainbow striping: narrow or wide, or one mitt of each.

This pattern was updated on 2nd August 2021 to include instructions for using a set of 8 x 10g Britsock mini skeins.

4ply/Fingering weight; 100% British Blue Faced Leicester superwash wool;
280m/306yds per 70g/2 oz kit 

Narrow Kit quantities: Main Colour: 240m/289yds in 60g/2 oz

Contrast Colours: 40m/105yds in 10g/ oz

Wide Kit quantities: Main Colour: 120m/131yds in 30g/1 oz
Contrast Colours: 160m/175yds in 40g/1 oz
Mixed Kit quantities: Main Colour: 180m/197yds in 45g/ oz
Contrast Colours: 100m/109yds in 25g/ oz

Each kit contains the Main Colour and eight Contrast Colours. There are equal amounts of the Contrast Colours, so you can use them in whatever order you would like, even on the Thumb. Each kit contains enough yarn to work a pair of mitts in the largest size at the correct tension, plus a margin of 10%.

The width of stripe you can work is based on the kit you have, so the Narrow Kit has the correct quantities of different colours for working the Narrow Stripe Sequence, and the Wide Kit for the Wide Stripe Sequence. The Mixed Kit has the right quantity for one of each!

SUGGESTED NEEDLES & NOTIONS
2mm (UK14/US0) set of double-pointed needles (DPNs)
OR
2mm (UK14/US0) 80cm/32” length circular needle for working magic loop

3 stitch markers
20cm length of smooth waste yarn in a similar thickness to the working yarn
Tapestry needle

SIZE XS (S, M, L, XL)
Finished measurements: 15.25 (16.5, 17.75, 19, 20)cm circumference 30cm/12” length.

Designed to be worn with 3-4cm/1  -1 ” negative ease, for a snug fit. For example, the XL will fit a hand with an up to 23cm/9” circumference around palm (measured just above and excluding thumb).

TENSION
34 sts and 48 rows to 10cm/4” after blocking

Take time to check your tension. This will ensure an accurate fit and that you will have enough yarn to complete your mitts.
