The story behind the Christmas on the Canal quilt
The Canal Houses quilt pattern is the smaller version of the "Little Amsterdam" quilt.
This quilt pattern, just like the original quilt, was designed by North Sea Quilters (Marybeth Tawfik, Leslie Carol Taylor, Maria Lazane Bihari). The original Little Amsterdam quilt won first prize in the long-arm quilting category in Waalre, The Netherlands 2007.
Since then, many quilters have enjoyed making the "Little Amsterdam" quilt pattern, some in the live classes Maria taught with Leslie or in the 14-week online quilt along organised by Maria in 2023.

Quilt with Maria, one of the Designers
I love teaching patchwork and sharing the joy of quilting.
I have been quilting for 25 years, and I have been teaching patchwork and quilting for half of these years.
My "official" quilting career started in 2007, when Marybeth Tawfik, Leslie Carol Taylor, and I set up North Sea Quilters in The Netherlands.
I continued teaching patchwork and quilting when I moved to Hungary and founded the Budapest Quilt Studio.
I live in the UK now. I set up MB Quilt Studio with my friend, Barbara Dornyi, to teach online patchwork and quilting classes.
The "Little Amsterdam" quilt along was my first online event in 2023. Quilters from all over the world made the quilt by following my step-by-step tutorial videos.
I recorded this Christmas on the Canal video online course for those who want to make a smaller quilt for the festive season.
I hope you will have as much fun making this playful quilt as the participants in the quilt-along did!
