How do you grade "responsibility"? With clear criteria kids understand! This Pet Responsibility Rubric & Self-Assessment Pack turns classroom pet jobs, or a home-pet responsibility project, into a measurable SEL lesson for teachers, homeschoolers and parents.

WHAT'S INSIDE (14 pages):

✔ Teacher guide with the routine (self-assess → adult score → conference), CASEL SEL connections and a scoring guide

✔ 4-level analytic rubric with 6 criteria: consistency, care accuracy, gentleness & safety, observation & reporting, record keeping, teamwork & communication (24 points)

✔ Kid-friendly "I can" self-assessment with an emoji scale + "proud of" and "goal" prompts

✔ Single-point rubric (Glows & Grows)

✔ Weekly class Pet Helper Tracker (roster)

✔ Optional 2-week home-pet project: student overview, parent letter with no-pet alternatives (plant, "egg baby," stuffed-animal pet), 14-day care log, "Cost of a Pet" math page with answers (grades 3–5), and an evidence-based reflection: "Am I ready for a pet?"

✔ Student/teacher conference form

✔ Two award certificates: Responsible Pet Pro + Most Improved Pet Helper

GREAT FOR: classroom pet helpers, character education, life-skills units, and families talking about whether their kids are ready for a pet. The project is about responsibility. Nobody needs to get a pet to take part.
