This lusciously textured, reversible, unisex hat works up quickly in Tunisian crochet - perfect for both advanced beginners and experienced TC-ers!
The pattern has been tested in all sizes. Pattern PDF includes a 12-page photo tutorial for special stitches and techniques (including almost invisible seaming) as well as tips for adjusting brim fit and using more colors.
Instructions are given for both a fitted or a slouchy beanie.
The hat is a companion piece to the Tunisian Etude scarf, available
here. You may like to make the scarf first to get familiar with the pattern - after that, the hat will be a breeze :)
Both sides of the hat are very different yet equally attractive, so there is no “wrong side”. Stretchy Tunisian ribbing forms a brim that can be adjusted to the wearer’s head.
I enjoy designing decorative hat crowns, but I chose the most unobtrusive crown shaping for this hat so that the stitch pattern could flow up smoothly, on both sides of the fabric.
Using 2 different colors (in both ribbing and body) adds a whole new dimension to the appearance of the hat - the possibilities are endless. And as you need less yarn in each color, it’s great for stash-busting too!
Yarn Ganga Acrowools Glowing Star Grande (83% acrylic, 17% nylon; 595 yds/544m/200g skein), shade 41 (Orchid). OR
100 g of any DK yarn with similar yardage. Purple hat in photos (small size) used a total of 56g (167 yds/152m).
You may wish to have more yarn at hand if using a different brand. Check the testers’ projects for more info!
