A free Book Club Guide to The Women Who Stayed, Book Three of the Freeman Legacy Saga by Carl Williams.

While the men rode west, the women of a free Black town on the Kansas plains held the farms, the school, and the church, and Sarah Cole started a newspaper so their names would not be lost. This guide helps your group talk about the work the histories never counted.

Inside:

• The true story in brief, with a References page of sources
• Discussion questions for each of the book’s four parts, plus questions for the whole book
• Record and Invention: what is documented history and what the novelist made up
• A 15-minute group activity, “The Two Lists,” and a page for your own notes
• A two-page printable worksheet with room to write
• What happened next, and where to keep reading
