363. assignment (Bohr model for hydrogen)

Using the Bohr model for hydrogen, please answer the following:

(Hint: You may find it useful to refer back to HW#1, Prob #11.)

(a) Calculate the time required for an electron in the n = 2 state to complete one orbit around the nucleus.

   s

(b) The typical "lifetime" of an electron in the first excited state (n = 2) is roughly 10^-8 s -- after this time the electron is likely to have returned to the ground state (n = 1). Estimate the number of orbits an electron completes in the first excited state before dropping back down to the ground state.
