Your own timing depends on your insurance, supplies and local rules. This kit doesn't promise customers, bookings or income.

From Holiday Lighting Playbook.

Price your first holiday-light install from your own numbers, check your safety and insurance list, and know what your written agreement should state, so you can quote with confidence.

Your goal: hang holiday lights for paying jobs this season without guessing at your price or missing a safety step.

What this kit does for you:

  • Quote a house from your own numbers. Enter the roofline feet, your material cost and your crew time. The calculator works out the quote and the margin, and shows dated published price ranges beside your price for comparison. They are never defaults.
  • Compare keeping the lights with the homeowner buying them, year by year, before you commit to buying stock.
  • Plan your season from your own dates, with a power check for each house and an install record.
  • Start safely. A checklist covers ladders and fall protection (federal OSHA text), lights, cords and GFCI power, insurance types, sign rules and helpers.
  • Know what to put in writing. A list of the terms your written agreement should state. It is a checklist, not a contract.

How fast can you get going? The kit is a download, so you can start pricing right away. Your first job also needs insurance, supplies and training, and those depend on you:

  • Insurance certificate: Many online insurers say a general liability certificate can be issued the same day you buy the policy; yours may take longer, depending on your insurer and your trade. Make sure your policy covers roof and height work.
  • Lights and supplies: standard ground shipping in the contiguous US usually takes 1–5 business days once the order ships. Suppliers say they process orders anywhere from the same day to 1–2 business days. Holiday-season shipping can take longer.
  • Training: a fall-protection "authorized user" course commonly takes about 2 to 4 hours. A "competent person" course commonly takes about 2 days.

Get your price, safety checks and first quote ready, step by step. Book your first install when your insurance, supplies and local requirements are in place. This kit doesn't promise customers, bookings or income.

FAQ

When can I take my first job?

That depends on three things outside the kit. Many online insurers say a general liability certificate can be issued the same day you buy the policy; yours may take longer, depending on your insurer and your trade. Ground shipping in the contiguous US is usually 1–5 business days after your supplier ships. A basic fall-protection course commonly takes about 2 to 4 hours. Start all three early: the step-by-step plan gets your price, checks and first quote ready while they run. Set an install date only when your insurance, supplies and training are in place. Your own timing depends on your insurance, supplies and local rules. This kit doesn't promise customers, bookings or income.

Does the kit find customers for me or promise income?

No. The kit helps you price, plan and prepare. It does not promise customers, bookings or income. Renewal-season figures in the calculator are your own estimates, and any homeowner can cancel or not renew.

Do I need insurance?

Customers may ask for proof of insurance before you start. The checklist lists the insurance types to discuss with an agent. If you hire help, federal rules require certain insurance for businesses with employees, and state laws vary. Check that your policy covers roof and height work.

Do I need training?

The kit recommends fall-protection training before anyone works on a roof. Federal fall-protection rules are written for employers; read the checklist's note on solo owners. Course lengths vary: about 2 to 4 hours for a basic user course, and about 2 days for a competent-person course.

Which suppliers or lights should I buy?

The kit doesn't recommend any supplier. Enter your own supplier's quote; the calculator shows dated example material costs for comparison only.

Will it work in my state?

The pricing and planning tools work anywhere. Rules on ladders, signs, licensing and insurance differ by state and city, so items marked "needs legal review" should be checked locally. The sign-rule example uses Texas.

What do I need to open it?

A spreadsheet app and a PDF reader. Includes .xlsx spreadsheets. Tested in LibreOffice Calc; Microsoft Excel compatibility has not yet been verified.
