Auditory Drill for b and d Discrimination

Directions:

Point to each letter (b or d ) and say its corresponding sound. Mnemonic Cues and Mouth Movement:

For b: Point to the cue on the letter b indicating lips on the line (mouth closed) to make the sound /b/. This reinforces that b is produced with closed lips.

For d: Point to the cue on the letter d showing the tongue bumping the roof of the mouth, with the mouth open, to make the sound /d/. This highlights that d involves a tongue touch at the roof of the mouth.

The mnemonic cues placed on the letters b and d help you associate the correct mouth movement with each sound, minimizing letter reversals by focusing on directionality. After each response, write the number of correct answers in the boxes on the right or check with a mark.

Repeat frequently to reinforce correct sound-letter associations and improve auditory discrimination.

Multisensory Practice: To ensure retention, print the worksheet, place it in a sleeve, and use a whiteboard marker for repeated practice.

By using these mnemonic cues and focusing on mouth movement directionality, this drill will help help minimize letter reversals and strengthen the connection between sound and letter.
