Level 2 Word Work (Grades 6 to 9)
FREE for Reading With Ms. Joy students using InferCabulary
This worksheet is for middle school students learning new vocabulary in InferCabulary during their sessions with Ms. Joy. It takes each new word further by building grammar and word knowledge together.
What your child will practice:
- Writing the definition of the new word
- Figuring out the word’s job: noun, adjective, or other
- Finding the person or thing an adjective describes
- Using the word correctly in their own sentence
- Choosing a word friend that matches the word’s meaning
How to use it at home:
- Print one sheet for each new word your child learned in InferCabulary.
- Your child writes the word and its definition, using the meaning shown in their InferCabulary pictures.
- Using the Helper Box tests, your child decides the word’s job and circles it.
- Your child writes a sentence using the new word.
- Your child chooses a word friend, swaps it into the sentence, and checks that it still makes sense.
Parent tip: Some words can have more than one meaning or job. Encourage your child to check the InferCabulary captions to see how the word was used. A completed example is included to help.
