Here's a transcription of a quirky tune that many latter-day stride pianists such as Dick Wellstood, Dick Hyman and Paul Assaro have performed. There's a (naturally) gobsmacking performance by Art Tatum too that momentarily pays homage to Fats' version.


Fats plays the sliding tenth triplets smoothly here so I've notated them as such. Often he would slightly hold the first tenth giving it more of a swing feel.


It's curious to note that when going into this classic right-hand "sliding tenths" riff, Fats "corrects" himself altering the usual middle Ab to A natural to fit the F7 chord. All part of the spontaneity of jazz!
