This hat combines all of my favorite aspects of a relaxing knit: larger needles, a simple stitch pattern, and it’s super satisfying to use up all those scraps of yarn laying around. :o)

Hipstamatic Scraps Edition is written to specifically use up scrap yarn, with tips on selecting yarns that you’ll be happy with. Each hat only takes a day or two to work up, and they also make great gifts! <3

Materials
Yarn
65-85g of fingering weight yarn total. As scrap yarn is recommended, a weight is offered in addition to yardage. Yardage is calculated presuming 420yds/100g for fingering weight skeins, this works out to 273 – 357 yds/250 - 326m of fingering yarn total.
Two strands of fingering will be held for this hat along with below.
AND 136.5 - 178.5 yds/125 - 163m of a fuzzy lace weight yarn

For the effect of this hat, three strands of yarns are held together at all times. A single strand of heavy worsted could be substituted.

Needles
US7/4.5mm – 16”/40.5cm circular
US9/5.5mm – 16”/40.5cm circular and DPNs
Or size to obtain gauge.

Notions
Stitch marker, tapestry needle
Gauge 25sts x 24 rows = 4” x 4”/10cm x 10cm holding all 3 yarns on larger needles, blocked, and unstretched.

Sizes
XS/S (M/L)
To fit head circumference of 16-20 (20-24)”/40.5-51 (51-61)cm
Note: my 20.5/52cm head can fit both the XS/S and M/L size; I prefer the XS/S as a beanie and M/L for slouchy.

Finished Dimensions
Circumference (measured around the widest of the hat): 12.75 (14)”/32.5 (35.5)cm after blocking, unstretched. The ribbing makes this hat very stretchy.
Hat Height: 8-10”/20.5-25.5cm depending on your preference for beanie or slouchy (if you’d like to double over the brim, work longer length)
