“Monkey Sea, Porthleven Beach”
This image is looking south along Porthleven Beach, towards Mullion Cove in the far distance. The focus however is on part of the massive rocky sea defences in the foreground, framing the onward scene. Porthleven’s sea wall appears to be a mix of natural and manmade stonework.
To me this part of the wall resembled the head of a great ape, looking unemotionally out to sea. 6ft waves are crashing in the middle distance, hence why Porthleven is a popular surfing beach. I’ve added orange and mauve sepia tones, which just seemed right with the contrast between the dark stone and light seascape beyond.
