Instrumentation: Concert Band

Duration: ~ 2:05

Difficulty level: intermediate - advanced

A true holiday evergreen, this symphonic wind arrangement has been written to be as close as possible to the original orchestral work, with the exception of some dynamic embellishments. This brings out a slightly more sinister, more mischevious side of the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, as interpretted by the arranger.

Since most wind bands lack access to a celesta, this arrangement hands over the celesta feature at rehearsal letter C to upper woodwinds. All trills should be diatonic unless explicitly marked otherwise.

Throughout this arrangement, cue notes are written in the case that some players are missing, for example in baritone saxophone from bar 1 or alto saxophone 1-2 in bar 17.

Trumpets and trombones will need straight mutes for this arrangement. If none are available, players should play one dynamic softer into their stands where marked.

In addition to the parts listed on the title page, extra parts are provided for Trombone 1-2 in Bb, Euphonium in Bb, Bass Tuba in Bb, and Bass Tuba 8va (intended to be performed 8vb from written; for those who have trouble reading many ledger lines down)

This arrangement is a part of an ongoing series of excerpts from the Nutcracker Suite arranged by Adam Claussen for symphonic wind band. If you liked this arrangement, check out Adam's other holiday and wind ensemble arrangements!
