Firebird Shawl

Create yourself some summer plumage with a dramatic semicircular shawl featuring two bands of lace - a simple small leaf pattern and one with swooping curves and a pointed edging. The shawl is worked in segments, using short-row shaping with wraps and turns to show the gradient of the yarn to best effect. Each wrong side row of the segment is shorter than the previous one, to create the wedge shapes.

Tension
22 sts and 30 rows in stocking stitch to 10cm on 3.5mm needles, before blocking.

Materials
Ullcentrum Lace 1-ply 100% wool (approx 600m per 100g).
2 x 90g skeins Orange/Cerise.
1 pair 3.5mm needles.
Smooth scrap yarn (enough to cast on 106 sts).
Stitch markers.
