Anxiety and the Nervous System Bundle | Client Resource, Fillable Worksheet and Therapist Companion
A trauma-informed therapeutic resource designed to help people understand anxiety as a protective response of the nervous system, rather than a flaw, a weakness, or evidence that something is wrong with them.
Anxiety does not arrive to punish us. It is the nervous system doing what it was built to do, which is to keep us safe. It can show up as racing thoughts, a tight chest, restlessness, shutdown, or the quiet urge to make ourselves small. When the alarm stays switched on long after the danger has passed, anxiety can begin to feel like the problem itself, and shame so often deepens it.
Anxiety and the Nervous System offers a compassionate framework for understanding what anxiety is really communicating, why shame amplifies it, and how the honour response can begin to restore a felt sense of safety, without pressure to fix anything, push feelings away, or regulate in a particular way.
This resource explains the mechanics of anxiety in accessible language, including the five survival states of fight, flight, freeze, flop, and fawn. It then moves toward the honour response, a set of gentle, concrete practices for meeting anxiety with dignity rather than judgement. A reflective worksheet invites exploration through six therapeutic prompts, helping notice where anxiety lives in the body, which survival state tends to show up, how shame appears alongside it, and what helps the nervous system feel genuinely safe.
This is not a resource about getting rid of anxiety. It is an invitation to meet it with honesty, curiosity, and self-honour.
