Program Note:
The "scissors sharpener" of the Portuguese "Amola-Tesouras", still appears in the streets, walking side by side with his bicycle, whistling a typical improvised melody in his peculiar flute. The elders used to say that his passage and his emblematic music announce the rain of the next day.
This poor street vendor, who rides his bicycle, offers his services in big cities (where only older people look at him) and in small and isolated villages (where he is welcome). He sharpens scissors, knives, razors, and other cutting instruments, and even repairs umbrellas for the rain he carries with him on his magic flute.
