Home Renovation Budget, Quote & Progress Payment Tracker (AU) - Excel & Google Sheets
Renovating? See what you've budgeted, what it's going to cost, what you've paid and what's left, room by room. It also warns you if your builder's deposit is over your state's legal maximum, or if you've paid a bigger share of the price than the share of work done.
What's inside
• Budget. One line per room and trade: your budget, the quote or contract price, approved variations, forecast cost, paid to date, still to pay and over/under budget. Each line shows OVER BUDGET, NO QUOTE YET, ON BUDGET, PAID IN FULL or OVERPAID.
• Quotes. Compare up to 3 quotes per line. It shows the lowest price and who gave it, and the spread between highest and lowest. It stays amber until you've picked one and ticked that you checked the licence and the insurance certificate.
• Payments. Every claim and payment, stage by stage (deposit, rough-in, waterproofing, lock-up, fixing, practical completion and more).
• STOP if the main-contract deposit is over the legal max for QLD, NSW or VIC (set your own % for other states).
• STOP if the share of the price you've paid is more than your estimate of the share of work done.
• CHECK if you paid a stage before inspecting it. OVERDUE and DUE SOON for unpaid claims.
• Variations. Every change, + or -, with time impact. Only approved variations go into the forecast. An approved variation that isn't in writing shows CHECK.
• Summary. Budget, contingency, forecast, contingency left, paid, still to pay, cost per m2, the legal max deposit, warning counts and a room-by-room table. Prints on one A4 page.
• BLANK and EXAMPLE files (a made-up Brisbane kitchen + bathroom reno), an Instructions tab and a 1-page quick-start PDF that names the regulator pages behind the deposit rules.
Good to know
• Works in Excel and Google Sheets. No macros, works offline. Metric, AUD, prints A4
• Holds 150 budget lines, 100 quote rows, 200 payments and 100 variations.
• It's a spreadsheet: it doesn't check licences or insurance for you and doesn't send reminders.
• Planning and record-keeping aid only, not legal, financial or building advice. Your contract and your state's law decide what can be charged and when. Rules change, so check your regulator's current page before you sign.
