362. assignment (linear accelerator)

A parallel-plate capacitor is formed of two 10 cm x 10 cm plates spaced 1.0 cm apart. The plates are charged to ±1.0 nC. An electron is shot through a very small hole halfway up the positive plate.

a. What is the slowest speed the electron can have as it enters the capacitor if it is to reach the negative plate?

b. What is the electric potential the electron experiences inside the capacitor when it is a distance of 0.3 cm away from the positive plate?

c. Now, a second vertical electric field is applied upwards with E = 2300 N/C. Where does the electron land?

(Either the x-position on the top/bottom of the capacitor or the y-position on the negative plate.)
