Spinning a Yarn Afghan - PDF knitting pattern

A circle but not a circle! This two-colour spiral only becomes a circle when you get to the end.

Make it at any size, in any yarn. It is ideal for using up a limited amount of yarn as you can stop spiralling at any time. I made the spiral in the photo using aran weight yarn.

It is knitted in one piece and I knitted the whole of mine on a pair of children’s needles. There will never be more than 30 stitches on the needle.

This may not be suitable for a complete beginner as there is one slightly tricky bit at the start. Once you get past that stage it is very easy. Unusually for a one-piece afghan, it is a very portable project. As you work on a small number of stitches you can keep the rest of it bunched up and not have to keep picking it up and turning it all round.

Unlike most of our designs, Spinning a Yarn needs blocking when complete.

This is not a conventional knitting pattern. If you can knit garter stitch you can make this. You do not have to be able to decipher a knitting pattern as these instructions are in simple words. You do not have to work to a particular gauge.

The pattern includes a sheet that can be used to try out your own colourways and keep track of your progress.
