Scaling up to the herringbone woven fabrics and textures, Gegek offers the full brioche experience in a triangular, flowy scarf/shawl. The herringbone texture is achieved through skewed color blocks that utilize color dominance. This movement gives the piece unique, stair-like edges, created by casting on new stitches each time a new color block begins.

Dense increases and decreases mimic the interlacing of woven fabrics, making Gegek a playful and elegant exploration of texture and form.

YARDAGE

415.5 yds / 380 m of fingering weight yarn for both colors (with approx. 10% buffer)

US 3 / 3.25 mm circulars, any length to accommodate stitches; or size needed to obtain correct gauge

5 reps of color block measures 4” / 10 cm horizontally, 2 reps of color block measures 5” / 12.75 cm vertically. Gauge is not crucial but will affect the size of the scarf & yarn consumption.

Gegek is a triangular scarf/shawl constructed with brioche color blocks.

Starting with a single block, Gegek’s blocks multiplying each time a color block ends with casting on new stitches using 2-color long-tail cast on method. Work continues with left leaning blocks, then right leaning blocks until the end.

Each color block row divided with a single purl ridge, and color blocks achieved with color dominance.
