The Other Truth About World War II
An exclusive interview with historian Jacques R. Pauwels that challenges the Hollywood and Manichean vision of America's "good war." A deep dive into revisionist historical research, largely unknown to the general public.
A HISTORY TO BE REWRITTEN
America is said to be a land of paradoxes. The history of World War II is no exception. On one side, the Manichean Hollywood vision where the good guys always triumph (Saving Private Ryan). On the other, a minority of American historians who take a critical and nuanced look at their country's role in this conflict.
Among these "revisionists" — not to be confused with Holocaust deniers — are Gabriel Kolko, Gar Alperovitz, and Michael Parenti. Unfortunately, their work remains virtually unknown outside the United States, rarely translated and seldom taught abroad. Jacques Pauwels, a Belgian-Canadian historian, has become the French-speaking voice of this alternative reading of history.
Today in 2026, more than 80 years after the end of World War II, this revisionist reading of history remains largely ignored by the general public. This documentary series offers rare access to essential research for understanding contemporary geopolitical issues.
THE REFERENCE BOOK
The Myth of the Good War — Aden Editions
"Should the United States' entry into World War II be considered a crusade against Nazi barbarism? Jacques Pauwels shatters the myth. The Americans landed with an ideology, political views, and above all the idea of ensuring the interests of their corporations and American capitalism. Fear of communist expansion was not unrelated to this interventionist philosophy. A counter-history that radically changes our vision of the 20th century."

AUDIENCE REVIEWS
"Interesting approach that challenges the classic vision of the last war! Pauwels believes in what he says. The period images are used in a personal, offbeat, almost humorous way. It's a good alternative to the classic version." — Pierre
"To understand today's world, you must understand yesterday's. Mr. Pauwels' presentation is very clear and convincing. The editing, archival images, and music make the whole thing really pleasant to follow. Bravo to director Marc Bielli: the alternation of interview sequences with striking archival images is a beautiful achievement!" — Jérôme
"Finally a serious and objective analysis that escapes the Marshall Plan that lobotomized us in Europe for decades! I hope this honest and fascinating film will penetrate the consciousness of as many people as possible." — CF
