Creative Mindfulness: Ready to Rise

Helping children feel ready, resilient and confident before they start secondary school in September 2026

Starting secondary school in September?

This summer, give your child something that will stay with them long after the first day nerves have faded.

Creative Mindfulness: Ready to Rise is an eight-session programme for children aged 10–11, using art, creativity and guided reflection to build the emotional skills children genuinely need, not just for secondary school, but for life.

Through storytelling, creative activities and short guided meditations, children develop self-awareness, emotional resilience, and a deeper understanding of themselves and others. And they have a lot of fun doing it.

What your child will gain

By the end of the course your child will have:

• A toolkit of practical techniques for managing big emotions and anxious thoughts

• Greater self-awareness — understanding where emotions show up in their body before they take over

• The ability to name, express and process their feelings in healthy ways

• An understanding that emotions are not permanent and do not define who they are

• More confidence in their relationships and communication with others

• Resilience — the ability to move through change, challenges and new experiences with greater ease

What happens in the sessions

Each session weaves together creative activities, mindfulness practice and a short guided meditation. Running through the whole course is a beautifully illustrated comic strip featuring two characters, Tara and Tom, who experience the same everyday situations from very different emotional perspectives. Their story helps children reflect on their own experiences in a way that feels natural, relatable and never heavy.

Sessions explore:

• Understanding thoughts and emotions — reflecting on what happens in a normal day and how our feelings affect us, through comic strip creations

• Calming the mind — learning to use the mind jar as a practical tool for settling big emotions, with breathing practice and reflection

• Awareness of the body — discovering where we hold emotions physically, using body maps, visualisation and each child's own personal emotion card collection

• The worry monster — a creative way to externalise worries, release them from the mind, and understand the link between thoughts and the body

• Gratitude — exploring what we're grateful for and how shifting our focus changes how we feel, with a hands-on creative activity

• Here and now — practising presence through breathing, sensory activities and the concept of train thinking — how thoughts arrive, pass through, and move on

• Everything belongs — creating a heart that holds all emotions, exploring how every feeling has its place and none need to be pushed away

• Being a friend to our emotions — learning that emotions visit us, they don't define us, and that we can meet them with curiosity rather than fear

This course is built around how children actually work, with movement, creativity, humour and variety woven through every session. Guided meditations are short, gentle and engaging, and children are never expected to sit rigidly or still. They are encouraged to find what feels comfortable for them and to move through the practices in their own way.

Children leave each session with something they've made, building a personal collection of tools, cards and creations they can keep and use at home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get a refund if the course isn’t right for my child?

If after the first session you feel the course isn’t the right fit for your child, please get in touch and we can have a conversation. Refunds are considered on a case by case basis. This is why I have an initial call with every family before booking is confirmed — to make sure the course is a good fit before any payment is made.

My child has never done mindfulness or art classes before, will they be ok?

Absolutely. No experience is needed at all — in art or in mindfulness. The course is designed specifically for children, and sessions are gentle, fun and creative. Children are never put on the spot or expected to share anything they’re not comfortable with. Most children settle in very quickly.

Do parents stay during sessions?

Sessions are for children only — parents drop off and collect at the door. This helps children feel comfortable, settled and free to express themselves openly. If you have any concerns about separation or your child’s anxiety please mention this during our initial call and we can discuss it together.
