ALTO CLEF Folk Song Harmony Duets for Viola - PDF Sheet Music
PDF SHEET MUSIC DOWNLOAD
This pack of 10 duet arrangements of traditional folk songs provides two different harmony options for each song. One harmony line is above the melody line, and one harmony is below the melody line. The scores are transposed into every possible key, and they have chord symbols for an accompanist. Originally they were released as vocal duets. This is the viola duet version.
All the scores are provided in alto clef for both parts. I've also included my original treble clef versions so these can not only be played by violists, but also in combination with other instruments and even with singers.
I made these alto clef versions as I could see several ways that they could be used by violists:
* Folky warmup exercises, to play with a partner or alone. As the music is quite simple, but goes through every different key (including many that are not exactly comfortable!) it’s a great way to warm up and stretch the muscles. If you prefer folk music to a monotonous “exercise” you could use it as part of your warmup routine.
* A basis for band arrangements and playing duets with different instruments. Provision in every key means it’s easy to team up with players of transposing instruments, as well as instruments in C, and singers. The chord symbols can be used by guitarists, bassists, accordionists, and keyboard players. As there are two different harmonies, these can be varied for different verses. (Note: the two harmony parts are not intended to played simultaneously – this may not sound good if you try.)
The songs included are:
Bright Morning Star
Sovay
Banks of the Sweet Primroses
Scarborough Fair
The Blue Cockade
Lonesome Woods
The Silver Dagger
Bonny Boy
The Water is Wide
Maying Song
You can hear demo recordings of the high and low harmony parts here.
