Warfield Kyrie (2008)
For SSATB Choir and Organ (3')
Description:
Pleading lines. Bold textures. Mercy made vivid.
Commissioned by First Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia, this SSATB setting with organ begins in quiet sorrow and builds toward a powerful, cathartic climax. Inspired in part by the French choral tradition, Kyrie combines fluid modal lines and harmonic color with moments of striking intensity. Its textures are both austere and resonant, capturing the urgency of the plea: Lord, have mercy.
Suitable for Lenten liturgies, penitential services, or any time the soul must cry out—this piece balances emotional restraint with dramatic force.
