The first commercial aquaculture site was started by Marine Research Associates on Deer Island, NB back in 1978-79. This Resource File provides references, artwork, photos, videos and articles about the development back then.

As you will see from the articles, artwork and photos, things certainly have changed a lot! The first cages were tiny and designing larger versions was a priority as the industry grew and more fish became available. The images in this presentation show designs starting with the tiny initial cages and the development of larger versions that were essential for the development of the industry.
