In The Encounter Stories, Lance Schaubert has assembled four literary shorts written for the young adult audience of the magazine "Encounter." Three of these stories were published in past years, one he wrote specifically for this collection.
Lance has turned a physically abusive relationship between two little hispanic sisters into a moment of grace, fight-turned-tears. In That Director, he explores the humanity of the celebrity artists we both idolize and demonize and in Enough is Enough, the heart behind a minister's petty rules is exposed through a house fire.
To the stories previously published in Encounter magazine, Lance has added an original story named Into Your Own Orbit, which – through the eyes of a seven-year-old Indian girl – deals with the ways we flail in trying to find ourselves. And the kind life we discover the moment we stop hoarding our control.
Lancelot Schaubert is a Brooklyn-based author of stories, non-fiction, screenplays, and poetry. He has sold his work to markets like McSweeney’s, The 2016 Poet’s Market, Poker Pro, Brink Magazine, Encounter, Red Letter Christians, and The Christian Standard (among others). He is currently submitting his first publishable novel. Along with his spaniel “Echo” and the grooviest bride in the world, Tara, he tries to love his neighbors and enemies.
