Peggy the chicken, who features in Brush With Fame, book 2 in The Seventies Collective, doesn’t live in a coop, a yard, or indeed anywhere sensible.

Rather, she lives under a London hedge with a homeless man named George. She pecks at the ground between strangers' feet without an ounce of concern for personal space, and when someone strokes the back of her neck, she leans into it like she's at a five-star spa.

She's unbothered by Polaroid cameras, London winters, and the general chaos of the surrounding city. She's also the only chicken in London who's been kidnapped, liberated, smelled like a brewery, and ridden home in luxury, all in one night.

When reunited with George, she ran to him at full sprint and jammed her head into the side of his neck, allowing him to cradle her like a baby. His baby.

When presented with her own Polaroid, she pecked at it.

Now she has her own portrait, painted in watercolor and hanging in a gallery. She’s the only hen in London who can claim this, and she’s not about to let that go.
