Program Note:
The following fanfare uses thematic material taken from the Military Drill manual of the National Republican Guard, which gives it a martial and imposing tone from the outset. To reinforce the festive nature of the occasion, the theme of “Happy Birthday” is presented and contrasted.
The premiere took place on November 5, 2011, at the Portalegre Performing Arts Center, by the GNR Symphonic Band under the direction of conductor Captain João Afonso Cerqueira.
