 Introduction

Shamanism, ancient rituals, magical ceremonies, and sacred practices have always been at the heart of humanity’s spiritual life. These traditions date back to an era when humans were inseparable from nature, and every action, word, or ritual carried profound meaning. Shamans, as intermediaries between worlds, imitated the movements of animals, believing this allowed them to absorb the strength, knowledge, or qualities of these creatures. Shapeshifting—the process in which a person temporarily or permanently assumes the form or essence of an animal—was one of the most significant stages of the spiritual journey. It was not merely a mystical experience but a ritual aimed at connecting with the natural world, achieving inner balance, and gaining strength.

However, shamanic practices always required preparation and spiritual maturity. Those who became shamans underwent a complex path of initiation, where mentorship and a deep understanding of nature were essential. Only through a conscious process of uniting with the spirits of the animal world could harmony be achieved, enabling the individual to harness this power for good. Transforming into a shapeshifter or uniting with an animal essence was considered a temporary, controlled state, enabling one to return to their world enriched with new knowledge and strength.

In the modern world, severed from its roots, this harmony has been lost. Humans, confined to concrete jungles and surrounded by technology, have lost their connection to nature, which for centuries defined their essence. Social roles, rational thinking, and societal expectations have overshadowed natural instincts, turning humans into performers of predetermined scenarios. Today, the personality often suppresses the essence, relegating it to something muted and unconscious. But the archetypal structures embedded deep within the human psyche have not disappeared. They seek an outlet, and when the bond with nature is severed, these archetypes manifest spontaneously and often chaotically.

It is within this context that the phenomenon of quadrobbers emerges—modern teenagers and children who unconsciously recreate elements of ancient shamanic practices. At first glance, this movement seems like a game, a pastime, or a form of self-expression. But a closer look reveals that quadrobbers instinctively return to the very rituals and processes once used in shamanism. By mimicking animal movements, wearing masks, and imitating sounds, they enter a state reminiscent of shapeshifting, even though they do not realize it.

The issue lies in the fact that the children and teenagers involved in these practices are neither psychologically nor spiritually prepared for them. Unlike ancient shamans, they lack the stages of preparation, the guidance of mentors, and an understanding of what they are doing. Their mimicry of animals becomes an unconscious ritual in which the animal essence dominates rather than achieving harmony between personality and essence. This can lead to what might be called possession. A person begins to lose their sense of self, their personal characteristics, and transitions into a state where primal, instinctive nature takes precedence.

The shapeshifting phase often becomes a dangerous stage for quadrobbers. It is a state where the animal archetype takes over the human psyche, displacing rationality and social norms. Teenagers or children may lose their connection to reality, becoming detached, aggressive, or entirely immersed in their inner world. Without understanding and integration, this state can lead to serious psychological issues. In ancient times, such states were managed by shamans who guided individuals, helping them to draw strength without destroying their personality. Today, however, these processes remain chaotic and uncontrolled.

Yet, this phenomenon has another side. Shapeshifting, even in its modern form, represents not only a danger but also a possibility. It signals a deep-seated human need to restore the bond with nature, with oneself, and with what has been lost. Quadrobbers remind us that humanity cannot exist without harmony between the natural and the social, between essence and personality. Their actions demonstrate that even in an alienated world, ancient archetypes continue to live within us.

This book is dedicated to shamanic practices that form the foundation of the quadrobber phenomenon. It explores how ancient rituals have adapted to modern realities, the dangers and opportunities they present, and how people can use this experience to restore their inner harmony. The focus is not only on quadrobbers as a phenomenon but also on the universal human need for unity with nature, expressed through the most unexpected forms.
