The Little Toy Shoppe - Legacy Edition
In an abandoned toy shoppe where four toys reside, there is a particular bit of magic in a solider with a trumpet, a jack-in-the-box, a ballerina, and a stuffed rabbit named Pip.
"I cannot tell you how the toys moved, spoke, or thought. I do not know how objects made of cotton and wood with stuffing for hearts feel fear, joy, or yearning. All I know is that here, in Brierly, they do. I cannot tell you how all this happened anymore than I can explain my breath or yours, the peaks of mountains scraping clouds, the sun’s infinite warmth and light, or flowers bejeweling the earth as some anonymous gift.
I can only tell you that the toys LIVED."
AUTHOR INSIGHTS
We asked Jason Woods, "Why did you write The Little Toy Shoppe?" His answer was refreshing:
"I wrote The Little Toy Shoppe as an act of kindness. In a world that often feels dark and murderous, we don’t need more mirrors reflecting that darkness; we need a hearth. This story honors the 'tattered.' It is about the radical truth of being loved anyway—even when you feel unlovable, broken, or forgotten on a shelf. I wrote it for those who are exhausted by cynicism and violence, and for anyone struggling to keep up with a pace that feels impossible to capture. The Little Toy Shoppe is a place to rest."
The Little Toy Shoppe was conceived by Jason Woods in October, 2022 upon his return from his New York Off-Broadway run of The Near-Disaster of Jasper and Casper. It has been performed at Dickens on Centre as an outdoor theatrical performance since 2023, and was an instant classic. Mr. Woods felt a great desire to have the story expanded and available for families, readers, those who are lonely or need a little mending, and so we are proud to present the Legacy Edition of The Little Toy Shoppe. The book is offered in a cloth, emerald green cover with fine gold-foil detailing, giving it a classic look and weight, perfect for gifts or for your own collection.
