The Mentusa Chronicles – Book Eight: The Confluence

A routine cargo delivery. A handful of questionable records. And a conference that could change the future of intersettlement cooperation.

When the Mentusa arrives at Meridian Exchange, Captain Kesla and her crew find themselves caught up in an increasingly complicated debate over a proposed mutual assistance compact. Across the settled worlds, communities are struggling to agree on how emergency supplies should be shared, who gets to make the difficult decisions, and what happens when helping one settlement means leaving another waiting.

For Thomas Arlen, an apparently harmless discrepancy in a cargo manifest opens the door to something much more significant. Three separate settlements have experienced changes to their emergency allocations, yet the records telling their stories are incomplete. Deliveries are marked as successful, decisions are recorded as authorised, and cases are closed. But do the official accounts tell the whole story?

As Thomas follows the trail through missing instructions, conflicting accounts and forgotten consequences, the crew discovers that building a system of cooperation is considerably harder than simply agreeing that everyone should help one another.

With old friends, familiar challenges and plenty of difficult conversations, the Mentusa crew must navigate a different kind of adventure: one where trust, fairness and the truth matter as much as any cargo.

The Confluence is the eighth instalment of The Mentusa Chronicles, a character-driven science-fiction series about life among the stars, the people who keep things running, and the connections that make distant communities stronger.
