The Bus

Ever feel as though different parts of you are pulling in different directions?

The Bus is a simple reflective tool for exploring the different thoughts, feelings, protective responses and inner voices that can show up when life feels difficult.

You might find this helpful if…

You notice your feelings do not always agree with each other, or if you are curious about the different parts of yourself that show up in daily life. This resource may support you in therapy, in your own reflective practice, or when you would like a new way of thinking about what you are feeling.

This resource won't tell you what to do

There is nothing here to complete, correct or master. The Bus offers a way of picturing your inner world: a driver, a bus, and the many passengers who travel with you. What you notice, and what it means to you, is entirely yours.

What's included

  • A two page illustrated worksheet (PDF)
  • The Bus metaphor explained: the driver, the passengers, and what happens when a part is pushed away
  • A Feelings Bus Stop reference guide naming ten common feelings
  • A closing reflection to carry with you

The Bus may be helpful if you're experiencing…

Difficulty naming or making sense of mixed emotions, a sense of internal conflict between different reactions or parts, or a wish for a gentle, visual way to think about feelings without needing prior knowledge of therapy models.

This resource is not…

A diagnostic tool, a substitute for therapy, or a resource that tells you which feelings are acceptable to have. All feelings are treated as welcome and worth noticing.
