Lithalsa

In the Arctic, lithalsas occur when ice forms beneath the ground and lifts the earth above it. These mittens form their own lithalsas, with cables rising above the body of the mitten to outline the hand and thumb before coming together to meet at the fingertips with a twist.

Worked in wintery colors of snow and ice, this pattern uses cables that are simple to knit but look impressive – a perfect combination for knitting gifts or for treating yourself!

This pattern comes in two sizes, but is knit to the same instructions. Size is determined by the yarn weight and needle size.
For the smaller size, use approx. 250 yards of fingering weight and US 2 needles.
For the larger size, use approx. 300 yards of sport weight and US 3 needles.

The size can be customized even more! Just add or subtract purl stitches on the hand in multiples of 2 for a true custom fit.
