About

This three-season gardening pullover has a trim fit that can slide under a rain jacket, and cropped sleeves to keep cuffs out of the muddiest play. The sweater is reversible and has quick to knit sleeves. An easily memorized and intuitive all-over cable pattern on the body adds just a little extra warmth.

The sweater is knit in the round from the hem to the underarms and knit flat after dividing for the sleeves. The sleeves knit separately and then joined to the body. Stitches are picked up and worked for the collar.

Difficulty: Suitable for advanced beginners

Skills Required/Techniques Used:
-Knitting and purling
-Working in the round
-Directional increases and decreases
-Cabling
-Seaming

Size Information:
Both gauges are important and are given after blocking. Needles suggested are a starting point only; you may find you need a different needle size for the sleeves and the body. Because a stockinette stitch sleeve is seamed to a cabled body, the row/rnd gauge is important.

Stockinette gauge: 21 sts and 29 rows/rnds over 4 inches; 10 cm square
Cable pattern gauge: 28 sts and 30 rows/rnds over 4 inches; 10 cm square

Size: 12 mo (18 mo, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 yrs)

To fit chest circumference: 18 (19, 21, 23, 25, 26.5, 28) inches; 45.5 (48.5, 53.5, 58.5, 63.5, 67.5, 71) cm

Final garment chest circumference: 19.5 (20.5, 22.75, 25.25, 27.5, 29.75, 30.75)

Final length from underarm to hem: 7.5 (8, 8.5, 10.5, 12, 14, 16) inches; 19 (20.5, 21.5, 26.5, 30.5, 35.5, 40.5) cm

Final upper arm circumference: 7 (8.5, 8.75, 9.25, 9.5, 10.25, 10.75) inches; 20.5 (21.5, 22, 23.5, 24, 26, 27.5) cm

A note on ease - this pattern has a trim fit with graduated ease, the chest has 1.5” (4 cm) of ease at the smallest sizes and approximately 3” (8.5 cm) at the larger sizes. If you would like your finished sweater to have more ease, most knitters will find that going up a size results in a long-sleeve sweater with an easy fit through the body.
