Viva Survivors Select is a series of curated collections of the best of the Viva Survivors daily blog, a monthly zine of viva help on a variety of topics and themes taken from eight years of daily posts.

Viva Survivors Select 08 is the Survival Issue. This is a topic that needs exploring because it applies to so much of the PhD journey, viva prep and the viva itself. Survive doesn't mean hardship, life and death and needing luck to succeed. Digging deep gives a context for how we frame progress and success in the PhD.

Alongside twenty posts from the archives, each issue of Viva Survivors Select also includes new original writing by me to build on the themes and offer more help. In this issue I share highlights from how I survived my own viva and a useful tool for thinking about difficulty in the PhD journey and the viva.
