First Moves 13-week Journal
FIRST MOVES: 13-WEEK INTERACTIVE JOURNAL
Write it down before it hardens.
High-pressure work does not always leave when the shift ends.
The difficult conversation, the job you keep replaying, the pressure you have not named and the version of yourself that arrives home can remain long after the uniform comes off.
First Moves is a practical 13-week interactive journal created for recruits, first responders, shift workers and people serving in demanding roles.
It provides one focused page each day to help you notice what you are carrying, get the day out of your head and put something down before it begins affecting your sleep, health or relationships.
You are not expected to write pages of detail.
Five honest minutes is enough.
HOW THE JOURNAL WORKS
Each week follows the same seven-day rhythm:
MONDAY — ARRIVE
Start the week honestly and recognise what you are already carrying.
TUESDAY — DEBRIEF
Separate the facts of the day from its physical and emotional impact.
WEDNESDAY — RELEASE
Name something you have been holding and begin putting it down.
THURSDAY — PEOPLE
Notice how the job is affecting your relationships and connection.
FRIDAY — PRESSURE
Identify accumulated pressure and establish a weekend boundary.
SATURDAY — COME BACK
Reconnect with the person you are when the role is off.
SUNDAY — RESET
Review what the week took and choose what you need next.
Every seven-day cycle is followed by a structured weekly review to help you recognise patterns before they become a crisis.

NOT ANOTHER TASK TO FAIL
This journal is not about maintaining a perfect streak.
If you miss a day, begin again with the next page. You do not need to catch up, explain yourself or start the entire journal again.
The habit matters more than the performance.
Small truth. Then stop.
CREATED FROM LIVED EXPERIENCE
Created by Anthony Pymm, founder and principal consultant of Healing Behind the Badge Consulting, First Moves draws on 27 years of frontline service, leadership, training and lived experience of PTSD recovery.
It was created around a simple belief:
What remains unspoken does not always disappear. Sometimes it hardens.
Writing it down can be the first move toward understanding what you are carrying and deciding what should come home with you.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
This journal provides practical education and guided personal reflection. It is not therapy, diagnosis or psychological treatment.
You never need to document graphic, operationally sensitive or identifying information.
Stop writing if an exercise significantly increases distress or you cannot remain grounded. Speak with a GP, psychologist, counsellor, EAP provider or another qualified professional when additional support is needed.
