Alexandria, Virginia, is home to one of the largest documented concentrations of Revolutionary War patriots in the Commonwealth. This 42-page digital guide identifies 162 documented patriots buried or memorialized across 13 historic burial grounds and tells the stories of the soldiers, physicians, merchants, civic leaders, and ordinary citizens who helped win American independence and build the new nation.

At the heart of the publication is a cemetery-by-cemetery registry of Alexandria’s documented Revolutionary War patriots.

Based on more than a decade of original research, the registry draws upon Alexandria records, cemetery documentation, SAR and DAR sources, the Papers of the Continental Congress, historic newspapers, and other primary and secondary sources.
